To support individuals referred to secondary mental health services for assessment or ongoing care. To demonstrate the Trust values of inspiring hope, working together, to be caring and compassionate, to value and respect others/ourselves and to be open and honest. As a Registered Mental Health Nurse you will demonstrate and live the NMC values as identified in the relevant Code of Practice. Your post will include working with individuals using evidence-based interventions to promote their independence and recovery whilst maintaining high quality clinical documentation. This includes respecting individuality, values, cultures and religious diversity of clients and colleagues and thus contributing to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs.

Main duties of the job

  • To promote positive mental and physical health to individuals under the care of the service in all situations.
  • To support individuals to collaborate in the development of their recovery plans and structured care plans and treatment, working to build a strong therapeutic alliance.
  • To assess, plan and review in line with requirements of the Care Act (2014) and s117 of the Mental Health Act (1983).
  • To provide clinical supervision to members of the multi-disciplinary team based on your clinical and professional knowledge.
  • To supervise junior members of staff in their clinical risk assessment and formulation of crisis and risk planning.
  • To promote recovery-focused care and interventions for individuals.
  • To ensure that all interactions and documentation is person-centred in line with NHS guidance ‘No decision about me, without me’.
  • To co-produce individualised recovery plans with the individuals, carer, and others identified by the Service User.
  • To promote and maintain a learning culture within the team which supports the professional and effectiveness of clinical care.
  • To contribute to the delivery of multidisciplinary training including the induction of new staff, students and trainees.

Practice Effectively

  • To demonstrate a high level of active communication skills with individuals in a variety of forums and situations.
  • To utilise your highly developed interpersonal skills to facilitate effective communication.
  • To provide specialist mental health interventions in the assessment, support, and recovery of individuals with severe mental health difficulties.
  • To ensure that all individuals have clear and accurate information regarding their care or the care of their loved ones.
  • To maintain high standards of clinical recording ensuring that information is always accurate, appropriate and up to date.
  • To comply with Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust’s policies and procedures with specific focus on confidentiality, Information Governance, and professional practice.

Preserve Safety

  • To identify any unmet needs to support service improvement or planning to enhance individuals experiences of health services within the Trust or in the wider health economy.
  • To comply with the relevant NMC codes of professional conduct, local, and national professional standards, policies and procedures.
  • To adhere to the principles of Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults in line with Trust policy and local and national reporting procedures.
  • To ensure that colleagues and junior staff are competent and compliant with Safeguarding legislation and guidance.

Promote Professionalism and Trust

  • To uphold the Trust values and work in an environment free from the fear of harassment, discrimination, abuse, and violence.
  • To develop and maintain good working relationships with all partners involved with individuals care or the wider health economy including General Practitioners, commissioners and third sector agencies.
  • To advocate on behalf of individuals under your care with regard to ensure that they are fully involved with their care and treatment.
  • To take responsibility for your own learning and professional development, making use of opportunities to expand your clinical, professional or governance skills.

Person specification

  • Essential: NMC Registered
  • Desirable: Experience of Working in CMHT
  • Essential: Professional Qualification RMN
  • Desirable: Completing assessments using a biopsychosocial framework

The Trust mandates all post holders who require a DBS for their role to subscribe to the DBS Update Service. You will be required to enrol for this service for a fee of £16 per year and maintain registration throughout your employment with GMMH.
