Bolton Community mental health teams (CMHTs) provide multi-disciplinary assessment, treatment, and care of individuals with severe and enduring mental health problems. The service is available to residents of Bolton, aged 16 to 70 years, with a diagnosed functional mental health problem. This typically includes service users with:

  • Schizophrenia
  • Severe Affective Disorder
  • Complex Personality Disorder
  • Autism Spectrum Conditions
  • ADHD

Main duties of the job:

There are two CMHTs in Bolton – covering the population of North and South. These are determined by the populations of GP practices and are reviewed in line with the changing population size and profile, and patterns of referrals. North Bolton CMHT serves the populations of the following GP practices:

  • Halliwell Surgery
  • Burnside Surgery
  • Marsden Road Health Centre
  • Waters Meeting Health Centre
  • Pike View Health Centre
  • Mandalay Medical Centre
  • Astley Centre
  • Market Surgery
  • Kildonan House

The catchment population for each Adult Psychiatrist in Bolton, including this post-holder, is 30,000, accounting for GP practice population size and profile, including morbidity, social deprivation, and referral patterns. The North Bolton CMHT caseload is approximately 800 – 900 patients, shared between two Adult Community Psychiatrists. The post-holder can expect their caseload to be approximately:

  • 350 – 400 patients under Care Programme Approach (CPA) with a care co‑ordinator
  • 50 – 80 patients on non‑CPA outpatient only
  • 10 – 15 patients who are subject to a Community Treatment Order

The outpatient clinics (based at Bentley House CMHT in Wigan) are expected to receive a referral rate of 12 new patients per month from the catchment population. It is suggested that the post-holder develop three to four clinics with one new patient and four follow‑up patients in each clinic, and eventually develop emergency slots in the future.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) when writing job applications:

A candidate may utilise the help of AI when writing job application. The assessment of an application is made on its entirety and most times AI‑generated content does not fully grasp the context and requirements of the job one applies for thus producing inaccurate and misleading information, especially in the supporting statement section of an application that can lack real life examples of one’s achievements, success and challenges. We have added a disclaimer to our application process advising that the use of AI is monitored. GMMH reserves the right to follow up with a candidate at the interview on specific responses and those examples used in the supporting statement to explore it further.

Please be aware that not all roles are eligible for sponsorship. You can review the list of eligible roles and salary requirements on the UK Government’s website. Your offer of employment could be withdrawn if the role is not eligible for sponsorship, and you are not otherwise able to evidence your right to work in the UK. The Home Office introduces new changes from 09/04/2025 that impact the health and care sector, you may wish to familiarise with it.
