This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new service delivered across Bolton: the Mental Health Support Team (MHST).
There is a significant focus on transforming Children and Young People\’s Mental Health Services within the NHS. The NHS Long Term Plan, building on the 2017 Children and Young People\’s Mental Health Green Paper, proposes improvements in mental health support in schools and colleges.
MHSTs aim to meet the mental health needs of children and young people (ages 5 to 18) in primary, secondary, and further education settings by providing mental health support in schools, colleges, and other educational environments such as alternative provisions.
Core Functions of MHST:
- Deliver evidence-based interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health issues.
- Support the senior mental health lead in each education setting to develop a whole school/college approach.
- Provide timely advice to staff and liaise with external specialist services to ensure children and young people receive appropriate support and remain in education.
The Education Mental Health Practitioner or Children and Young People Wellbeing Practitioner role supports school staff in recognizing and responding to emerging mental health difficulties.
Bolton MHST collaborates with existing mental health support services, including counsellors, educational psychologists, school nurses, pastoral staff, and educational welfare officers.
Our Band 5 Education Mental Health Practitioner or Children and Young People Wellbeing Practitioner will receive regular clinical and case management supervision to support the core functions of the MHST.
