The GMCA Group is seeking an outstanding individual to join us as our new Assistant Director, Internal Audit (Group). This is a unique opportunity to provide strategic leadership to the internal audit teams across GMCA, GMFRS, TfGM, and GMP. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring robust governance and effective risk management, acting as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and statutory officers. Your work will promote transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement across a diverse and complex group of organisations.
About you:
- Lead and inspire high-performing internal audit teams, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
- Develop and deliver a group-wide internal audit strategy aligned with organisational objectives and stakeholder expectations.
- Advise senior management and Audit Committees, ensuring compliance with professional standards and legislation.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement, sharing best practice and addressing shared risks across the group.
- Oversee counter fraud and whistleblowing arrangements, and lead on complex investigations when required.
- Champion ethical standards, inclusivity, and sustainability in all aspects of your work.
What We're Looking For:
- Extensive experience leading internal audit services in the public sector.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, stakeholders, and teams in complex environments.
- Relevant professional qualification (CMIIA, CIA, CIPFA, ICAEW) and current membership of a recognised body.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- A collaborative, adaptable leader committed to continuous improvement and organisational development.
