The Housing and Land directorate is responsible for the Mayor’s plans to deliver new and improved homes and strong communities. Working closely with boroughs and partners, we manage the Mayor’s housing investment programmes and land and property assets to support the building of affordable homes, job creation and regeneration.

The New Homes Accelerator Team is a new team in the Investment and Operations Unit in the Housing and Land directorate. The Government’s New Homes Accelerator (NHA) is a programme established by the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) to speed up the delivery of large-scale housing developments that have stalled. The NHA aims to increase the delivery of homes by the end of this Parliament (2029). Since the NHA was established, MHCLG, GLA and London Councils officers have worked in partnership to analyse London’s stalled sites and identify suitable interventions to accelerate their delivery.

In early 2026, we took this to the next level by establishing the NHA LDN team, to take a more proactive, London-led role, to identify stalled housing sites and find practical ways to get them moving again. This means using our powers, data and networks to make things happen. We elevate sites where delivery challenges cannot be addressed through these resources to the MHCLG NHA team for action. They will then provide support with engagement where the challenges relate to other government departments or will work to address policy and systems issues if these are the blockers.

This GLA New Homes Accelerator Team acts as our central point of coordination within the GLA to other internal teams and to MHCLG, London boroughs and external partners, minimising disjointed or duplicative communication to key partner organisations. They will work closely with other teams to unblock sites and get homes built in London.

This is your chance to play a central role in unblocking stalled sites and getting London’s housebuilding moving again. As one of the NHA Project Managers you will support the Senior Manager and work with GLA teams, Homes England, Government and other partners, to help unlock stalled housing sites and get homes built faster. You will:

  • take a London-led approach (in close collaboration with ATLAS London) to data collection and analysis to identify genuinely stalled sites in London
  • work with existing networks, teams and site lists to prioritise which sites should be supported through the NHA
  • identify ways to unblock and accelerate sites, focusing on using existing GLA powers, resources, funding and brokerage
  • work with GLA teams to unblock the sites and get homes built
  • triage sites that can’t be unblocked through our own resources and powers to the MHCLG NHA team where other solutions, such as more senior political brokering or national policy interventions will unblock them
  • maintain regular and open communications with the MHCLG team about progress on unblocking sites.

You will manage key relationships across GLA teams, Homes England and Government and provide specialist technical development support to help identify solutions which will accelerate housing delivery across a range of schemes in London. This will include:

  • giving professional and technical advice to help accelerate housing delivery on London schemes through the New Homes Accelerator programme – this could include development viability, project finance, planning, brokerage and escalating issues to other GLA teams or Government
  • managing New Homes Accelerator London projects and related initiatives effectively, making sure all records are accurate and kept up to date
  • reporting on projects clearly and regularly, including outputs, budgets and risks – prepare dashboards and update papers for DMT, Deputy Mayors, the London Housing Mission Board, the New Homes Accelerator Steering Group and other key forums
  • identifying project proposals that meet Mayoral and Government objectives for new homes, and work with partners to bring these forward so homes are delivered by 2029.

To be considered for the role you must meet the following essential criteria:

  • good understanding of how the development sector works – including its economic, financial and organisational challenges across both private and public organisations
  • excellent relationship-building skills – you’ll work with a wide range of partners, share knowledge and collaborate to achieve shared goals
  • strong strategic thinking skills – you can see the bigger picture to uncover potential challenges and opportunities for the long term.

This role is based at London Fire Brigade’s Head Office (Union Street SE1 0LL).
