Strategy and Communications sits at the centre of the organisation, bringing together several teams with organisation-wide remits and mutual collaboration opportunities. The work of the directorate’s teams includes delivery of major events, designing and leading public affairs or marketing campaigns, providing data, evidence and analysis, leading cross-organisational programmes, to making sure we plan for and can respond to emerging events or emergencies in our city.
The Digital Content Editor will play a key role in shaping how the Mayor of London and the Greater London Authority communicate with diverse audiences. This role is responsible for creating and editing engaging, audience-focused content across digital channels, translating strategic priorities into impactful messages. By championing best practices in digital content strategy and accessibility, the Digital Content Editor ensures that campaigns are effective, inclusive, and aligned with the GLA’s goals.
Responsibilities
- Create and edit engaging, audience-first content across a range of digital channels, including paid, social media, email, and emerging platforms.
- Turn strategic priorities into clear, compelling messages that resonate with diverse audiences across London.
- Work closely with colleagues across communications, policy, and marketing teams to deliver integrated campaigns and ensure consistency in tone and messaging.
- Champion best practice in digital content, ensuring all output is accessible, inclusive, and aligned with the GLA’s standards and objectives.
- Use data and performance insights to refine content, optimise campaigns, and maximise impact.
- Manage content projects from briefing through to delivery, ensuring work is high-quality, timely, and effective.
- Support and guide junior team members, helping to build capability and maintain high editorial standards.
- Contribute to a culture of innovation, keeping the GLA at the forefront of digital communications and exploring new ways to engage audiences.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Exceptional copywriting and editing skills, capable of crafting audience-focused, clear, and impactful content aligned with organisational goals.
- Strong experience in leveraging social media, email marketing, and digital advertising for communications, campaigns, advocacy, and engagement, with an understanding of emerging trends and platforms.
- Solid understanding of visual storytelling and its role in effective digital communications and campaigns.
- Working knowledge of email marketing CRMs specifically Mailchimp, building and monitoring social media advertising campaigns in Meta Ads Manager, Google and Snapchat, and design tools such as the Adobe suite and Canva.
- Strong understanding of politically sensitive work, with experience managing relationships with stakeholders, including senior leadership.
- Comfortable working under pressure and adapting to a changeable environment.

GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.
