Are you a sustainability expert with vision? The London Sustainable Development Commission (LSDC) was set up in 2002 to provide independent advice to the Mayor of London on making the capital a more sustainable city. The Commission is made up on 12-15 experts whose role is to promote integrated and innovative solutions, policies and programmes to create an environmentally sustainable city and deliver improvements in quality of life for everyone, now and in the future. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals at the heart of Londons sustainability and climate action, contributing to making London a resilient place to live and work. The LSDC aims to provide guidance on: Achieving a just transition to net zero Meeting the challenge of achieving environmentally sustainable growth of the economy in London that improves quality of life for all Londoners. Meeting the diverse needs of all Londoners and communities, promoting personal wellbeing, social cohesion and inclusion, and creating equal opportunity for all. Respecting the limits of the planets environment, resources and biodiversity improve Londons environment and ensure that the natural resources needed for life are unimpaired and remain so for future generations. Over the coming years, the Commission will have an important role in informing and supporting the Mayors delivery of a just transition to net zero, ensuring that these principles are embedded into the regional and local decision-making framework. Dealing with issues as diverse as the Mayors climate action targets; ensuring London has a just transition to becoming a net zero city by 2030; and developing an approach in the capital to building cohesive sustainable communities through an integrated city approach. You will build on the success of the Commission and bring fresh innovative ideas that will create meaningful and positive change. We are looking for individuals with senior level experience in delivering sustainable development. You will have proven outstanding communication skills to engage with people at all levels and thrive in a highly political environment. Above all, you must bring drive, commitment and practicality to broker and deliver solutions to the sustainability challenges London faces now and in the years to come. Although not essential for this role, we are particularly interested in hearing from professionals with experience in any of the following areas; planning, green finance and investing, nature, adaptation and resilience, community or charity/NGO sector, social policy, business, and innovative technologies.
