The Role

As a Trainee Senior Conductor, you will play a key role in the safe and smooth running of our service, assisting passengers with any enquiries or problems, checking, and issuing tickets, and ensuring the safety of the crew and customers.

With experience of cash-handling in a customer service or retail environment, you\'ll be friendly and approachable, with first-class communication skills and the ability to remain calm in all situations. You must be willing to work on a shift basis Monday to Saturday, with Sunday shifts as agreed, and your own transport would be advisable due to shift start and end times.

In the Midlands the West Midlands Railway brand is a local railway placing Birmingham at the centre of its network. We run the majority of the local services, as well as direct trains to many of the surrounding towns and cities, including Redditch, Stratford-upon-Avon, Worcester, Hereford, Shrewsbury, Telford, and Northampton. Our London Northwestern Railway brand serves the London to Liverpool route on the west coast, stopping at Birmingham, Milton Keynes and Northampton, with the West Midlands at its heart.

The recruitment process is lengthy, but the role is BIG and we are looking for the right candidates with the ability to manage the safety critical/ operational side to the role as well as provide an amazing customer experience to our customers. This includes psychometric testing.

Stage 1 - Submit a great application online and upload your C.V.

Stage 2 -Your application will be sifted by the recruitment team.

Stage 3- OPC Psychometric testing, you will be asked to complete the online safety critical testing for this role. This can take up to approximately 1 hour and will consist of a SCAAT test, RAAT test and TCT test.

Stage 4 - Candidates that pass the online Conductor psychometric testing will be invited to attend a competency based interview either face to face or via online MS Teams.

If you are successful on the interview day you will either be offered a role for any immediate vacancies or be placed in a talent pool for future Senior Conductor roles. Candidates will stay in the Talent Pool for a maximum of 12 months and during that 12 months, you will not need to apply for this particular role again! As and when we have Trainee Senior Conductor vacancies arise, we will be in a position to pick up the phone and make a job offer!

Under RSSB guidelines any candidates who have been unsuccessful with the industry tests will need to wait for a period of 6 months prior to re-applying again.

Under RSSB guidelines candidates must have full colour vision and pass a train movements medical.
