This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board. As part of the Transport UK Group, West Midlands Trains delivers around 1,300 train journeys a day, for more than 60 million passengers a year, across our two brands - West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway. We are committed to delivering a safe and reliable train service, by investing in our fleet of trains, stations and employees.

We are looking to recruit a Train Service Manager, on a Fixed Term Contract/ Secondment 12 m basis, based in Rugby. Please note we will accept candidates that live within a 60-minute radius of Rugby station.

Imagine knowing hundreds of thousands of people are getting to work on time because of your quick thinking and attention to detail. Imagine being the reason that families can go on holiday, people can get to critical hospital appointments, friends and family can visit each other - all because of the crucial role you do as part of our Control Team.

We are expanding our Control Team at Rugby, with an exciting opportunity to be the heartbeat that keeps our trains running. Controllers are responsible for monitoring our train services, minimising the impact when things do go wrong, and supporting our 85,000 LNR passengers get to where they need to be every day.

What you’ll do:

The WMT Control based in Rugby ROC is the lifeblood of our West Coast services, responsible for keeping our trains and timetable on track 7 days a week. Our Control Team is made up of a variety of roles, each with specific functions and responsibility. We are recruiting for a Train Service Manager. As a TSM, you will be responsible for constantly monitoring our train services, making sure trains run on time, and quickly putting in place a 'Plan B' of action if things go wrong. This will involve working alongside internal and external key roles to ensure we can alter the service - to make sure the right Traincrew and Units are in the right place. This involves using all the information available to decide the best course of action for our passengers, and relaying all the updates and changes to ensure the new plan goes smoothly.

How you’ll work:

These roles work a varied shift pattern, including weekends and bank holidays. We have TSM vacancies for both AM/PM work on 8 hr shifts, and Day/Night on 12 hr shifts. However, in return we support a great work/life balance, and our staff really value the time this gives them outside of work - being able to switch off the moment they finish their shift, to focus on spending time with family, friends, and doing the things they love.

Being in Control is about keeping a cool head when working under pressure, using all the information available to find the best course of action. You’ll be working as part of a vibrant team, so being a team player is crucial for all of these roles, to achieve the exceptionally high standards we set ourselves, and importantly doing the best we can for our passengers.
