We're looking for a Digital Content Editor to manage and optimise our digital channels, including our GWR.com website. In this role, you'll ensure content is clear, accurate, accessible and meets user needs. You'll drive organic growth by leading on-page SEO and supporting the wider SEO function across technical and off-page practices. Using tools like Google Analytics and Search Console, you'll identify opportunities, improve engagement and deliver data-driven enhancements for our website. Collaborating with stakeholders, you'll bring their information to life online through effective communication and promotion, while championing digital best practices. This role combines communication, content optimisation and stakeholder engagement to deliver content that enhances commercial goals and customer experience. To support with collaboration, occasional travel across the GWR network is required.
Your main responsibilities will be:
- Write, edit and publish high‑quality, user‑focused content across GWR.com
- Manage day‑to‑day content updates, ensuring a timely and consistent publishing process
- Lead on‑page SEO across GWR.com, ensuring content is aligned to search intent and best practice
- Conduct regular content QA checks to maintain accuracy, and ensure compliance with editorial, optimisation and accessibility standards
- Provide day‑to‑day advice and clear guidance to colleagues on digital best practice, accessibility and SEO
- Work with the Digital Marketing and Content Manager to continually improve content processes, workflows and governance
- Use customer insight tools and Google Search Console to track performance of website content and highlight risks or opportunities
- Support cross‑team initiatives, campaigns and digital improvements as required
- Build positive relationships with internal stakeholders, representing the needs of digital users

About you: As the successful candidate, you'll have the following:
Knowledge
- Strong understanding of digital content principles and best practice
- Strong knowledge of on‑page Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
- Awareness of web accessibility standards and writing for digital channels
- Familiarity with Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and content/SEO performance tools (Preferable)
- Understanding of UX and digital design principles

- Excellent editorial and copywriting skills
- Strong proof‑reader with high attention to detail
- Team player who can develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Confident communicator who can explain complex digital and technical concepts simply

Experience
- Experience in a digital content or editorial role
- Experience managing digital content production and use of website content management systems (CMS)
- Experience writing and editing content for public‑facing websites
- Experience applying on‑page SEO best practices (Preferable)
- Experience in a digital team or agile product development environment (Preferable)
- Experience working with an e‑commerce website
About the location: Our digital team works out of 3 main locations, London Paddington, Exeter and Plymouth, therefore you can be primarily based in any of these offices. To ensure collaboration and support for our stakeholders, some travel to other locations on the GWR network will be required on occasion. Free train travel for GWR is included as part of this role.
