Overview
GWR is the custodian of Brunel\’s railway, carrying passengers to over 275 stations in the South West. Be part of a team that aims to restore the railways as a friendly, relaxing, fast and efficient experience for customers. The apprenticeship offers on-board and station placements designed to build real customer service skills.
Who are you?
You’ll enjoy working with people, have great communication and teamwork skills, and bring enthusiasm to learn and broaden your knowledge. Essential requirements include being over 16 years of age, living within one hour of your chosen location, and GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English (or predicted results).
Responsibilities
- Train and learn while you earn as a Customer Service Apprentice.
- Experience a variety of on-board and station work placements, including Station Operations, Gateline, Customer Host, Ticket Office and Revenue Protection.
- Learn from experienced colleagues and academic partners.
What you’ll gain

- Opportunity to attain a Passenger Transport Level 2 qualification.
- Possibility to undertake the Duke of Edinburgh Business Gold Award.
Apprenticeship details
- Contracted to work 35 hours per week. Shifts start no earlier than 07:00 and finish no later than 20:00.
- Base location must be accessible by 07:00 by the apprentice, if public transport is unavailable.
- Working week is Monday through Saturday with a rest day and study day; overnight stays may be required during training periods.
- The apprenticeship starts on 9 March 2026 and runs for 18 months.
Salary
Starting Salary for Under 18s is £13,785 / Starting Salary for Over 18s is £23,005
