This is a part‑time, on‑site Catering Assistant role based in York. The Catering Assistant will support the preparation and presentation of food and beverages for meetings, events, and internal functions, following agreed menus and service standards. Responsibilities include:
- Setting up service areas
- Replenishing food and drink
- Maintaining cleanliness of kitchen and serving spaces
- Ensuring high hygiene standards
- Welcoming guests and providing friendly and efficient service
- Handling basic questions about menus or dietary requirements
- Promptly addressing guest needs
- Assisting with stock rotation and basic ordering support
- End‑of‑day cleaning and breakdown of catering areas
The Catering Assistant will work closely with colleagues and supervisors to deliver a consistent, professional service.
Qualifications:
- Strong food preparation skills, including basic cooking, plating, and safe handling of ingredients
- Solid understanding of hygiene and food safety standards, including cleanliness, sanitization, and safe storage practices
- Proven customer service experience with a focus on hospitality, guest satisfaction, and professionalism
- Effective communication skills for interacting with guests, colleagues, and supervisors in a clear and courteous manner
- Experience in food service, such as buffet setup, serving food and beverages, and clearing tables, is highly desirable
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and carry catering equipment, and work in a fast‑paced environment
