The Independent Living Apprentice will work as part of the wider Independent Living team, providing services that promote people aged 55+ to maintain their independence through the provision of secure, safe and well managed housing. You will spend time working across our portfolio of Independent Living services to develop an in-depth knowledge of specialist housing services for people aged 55+, with the opportunity to support the opening of Kindred House, the first purpose built LGBTQ+ inclusive Extra Care Scheme in the UK.

What you’ll be doing as an Independent Living Apprentice at Great Places:

  • Ensuring the responsibilities of the post are carried out in a way that reflects the standards, vision and values of Great Places.
  • Develop an understanding of housing management services provided to Independent Living customers, including allocations, income management, repairs reporting and void property management.
  • Develop an understanding of the housing related support provided to Independent Living customers, including Daily Welfare Checks and the use of Tec Enabled Care, Personal Safety Plans, Person Centred Fire Risk Assessments and safeguarding.
  • Work within the Independence & Wellbeing framework to deliver services to customers that promote and maintain independence, developing a programme of activities with customers and key stakeholders.
  • Develop an understanding of partnership working in the delivery of services, working with key stakeholders to ensure customers maintain their independence.
  • Representing Great Places in a professional manner with integrity, inclusivity and respect for diversity.
  • Treating customers and colleagues with respect and empathy.
  • Working 35 hours per week and having a flexible approach to work.

What you’ll need:

  • Commitment to completing your apprenticeship and engaging with the Growing Greatness development programme.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Keen eye for detail and good organisational skills.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above would be beneficial.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • A clean UK driving licence and access to a car would be desirable.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as using your own initiative and time management skills to deliver tasks on time.
  • Empathy for those who have been disadvantaged and who need help and support to achieve their goals and aspirations.
  • Commitment to understand the challenges and opportunities that exist in the communities in which we work. We particularly value lived experience in social housing.
