Fire & Building Safety Officer (full time, 35 hours per week)
The Building Safety Officer will play a key role in ensuring full building safety compliance and customer safety across our property portfolio through effective management and communication. Youll bring expert knowledge of building and fire safetyincluding fire doors, alarms, detection systems, sprinkler systems, and fire risk assessmentsto support a safer environment for all.
We have stock across Manchester, extending up to Blackburn and over to Sheffield. In this role, you\’ll work alongside the team to visit different locations, ensuring our properties are well-supported.
What youll be doing
- Manage allocated fire risk assessment actions within our portals and systems, ensuring timely completion and uploading of compliance evidence.
- Support the delivery and management of all fire-related contracts and contractors.
- Liaise effectively with colleagues to coordinate access for contractors to complete works in communal and private areas for individual projects, planned improvements, and service programmes.
- Deliver a visible and skilled inspection regime across all aspects of building safety, ensuring services comply with current regulations, British Standards, and best practice.
- Carry out routine inspections of communal areas, blocks, and individual flats to ensure safe management and support resident safety.
- Monitor the building and fire safety inbox, providing competent advice to colleagues on general safety queries.
- Conduct post-inspections of completed building safety works.
- Maintain effective and accessible records, ensuring all building safety documentation is correctly stored.
- Ensure KPI data is captured and reported to line managers and other stakeholders in a timely way.
- Support effective contract management for building safety, including compliance assurance through reporting, toolbox talks, site visits, and supporting procurement and contract delivery.
- Draft and implement contract specifications and escalation processes for addressing any contract breaches.
What youll need
- NEBOSH Fire Certificate (or equivalent).
- Level 4 Award in Asset and Building Management Compliance (or willingness to work towards it).
- Technical knowledge of fire safety systems and equipment (e.g., fire detection, FFE, sprinklers).
- Strong understanding of building and fire safety legislation.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to complete tasks accurately and on time, with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skillsboth written and verbal.
- Confidence liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage your own workload.
