Panther Urology Ward is seeking an experienced staff nurse who is keen to explore and develop their career on a paediatric urology surgical ward to cover maternity leave for 10 months. We are a welcoming, multi-cultured and diverse team, passionate about making a difference to our patients and their families. Panther Urology ward will allow you to gain specialist surgical skills and we will support you to build confidence in high dependence nursing. We can offer a number of development and educational opportunities tailored to your needs.
Main duties of the job include:
- Planning, assessing, implementing and evaluating programmes of care for individual children.
- Supervising other staff in providing appropriate care.
- Maintaining a welcoming, caring and safe environment for children, young people and their families.
- Assisting in the education and practical training of learners and junior staff.
- Participating in informal and formal teaching.
- Maintaining confidentiality surrounding the child’s or young person’s admission and treatment.

Essential criteria include:
- Experience of working as part of a diverse team.
- NMC Child Registered Nurse.
- Relevant nursing qualification.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development linked to demonstrable competencies.
- Experience of having worked with acute/chronically sick children.
- Understanding of professional and current issues in children’s nursing.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to plan and prioritise care for patients.
Desirable criteria include:
- Assessor or practice supervisor qualification/experience.
- Understanding of nursing practice and innovation outside of GOSH.
- Previous experience in the relevant specialty of post (preferably in an NHS setting).
