Part-time / Job Share Band 7 Rehabilitation Clinician – GOSH Cochlear Implant Programme
GOSH is an international centre of excellence in paediatric care, with a history of ENT and audiological care. We are a long established Cochlear Implant Programme, looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Rehabilitation Clinician to join our multi-disciplinary team.
You will work with the Lead Rehabilitationist to ensure that parents, children and local support services are informed and supported during the assessment process, and, if the child proceeds to a cochlear implant, in the peri-operative and post-operative period, progressing to long term habillitation. You will have a key role in giving information, liaison and supporting a wide range of infants and children to develop listening and communication skills. You will work very closely with a friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team, including Speech and Language Therapists, Clinical Psychologists, Audiological Scientists, Audiological Physicians (both Consultant and Specialist Registrars) and ENT
Consultant surgeons, Ward staff and Admin staff delivering services to in line with the National Guidelines and GOSH Values.
You will work in a flexible way so you will need to be well organised and a good time manager. You will undertake home, nursery and school visits as required, work in the clinic independently and with colleagues. You will give formal or informal training and support to colleagues in the community. Many of your visits can be done on public
transport but a driving licence and access to a car are highly desirable. Visits are largely in Greater London, the Home Counties and the South Coast. You will have excellent interpersonal skills. You will understand parents’ right to make informed decisions and facilitate discussion and problem solving in a reflective and positive way, working collaboratively with local Teachers of the Deaf and Speech and Language Therapists in peripatetic services and in units and schools.
You will be interested in contributing to research and will work methodically to collect and organise data on children’s outcomes. You will be confident about using IT and will be taught to use databases and spread sheets to record information. You will be meticulous about the confidentiality and security of patients’ data.

Main duties of the job

  • Work closely with the rehab team, sharing information and co-ordinating the collection of data and other information and the provision of services to children, families and local professionals. Assessing the language and speech development of patients to identify patients who would benefit from referral to SALT.
  • Work closely with the Clinical Psychology team, discussing referrals to Clinical Psychology with the family, making referrals, sharing information, planning and implementing support and where appropriate, supporting interventions, and ensuring that information is passed to local support services, as agreed with the family. Assessing the cognitive development, literacy development and social and emotional needs of patients to identify patients who would benefit from referral to Clinical Psychology
  • Assess patients for their suitability for a cochlear implant providing information for the MDT report in good time.
  • Visit patients at home, nursery or school to advise families and local services on the use of cochlear implants and to advise on development of listening skills at home and in the community.
  • Arrange and make appointments for visits to homes and schools using the appropriate systems
  • Maintain records appropriately, ensuring the confidential storage of patient’s information and following hospital procedures for the appropriate maintenance of electronic records
  • To follow a programme of in-service training and development to enable the postholder to fully develop the skills and competencies required in the post, as described in this job description.
