An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) or Nurse to join the Practice Education Team as a Practice Facilitator for Core Clinical Services.
Our department encompasses a wide range of clinical areas, including the Surgical Day Admission Unit (Woodpecker & Nightingale), the Nurse‑Led Sedation Unit, Pre‑Assessment, Anaesthetics, Scrub, Recovery, Interventional Radiology, the Cardiac Catheter Lab, as well as specialist services such as the Central Venous Access Team and the Pain Management Team.
In this role, you will provide education, support, and practice-based learning opportunities to a diverse range of nursing and allied health professionals, as well as undergraduate students and apprentices within the perioperative setting. Working collaboratively with the Practice Educator and Practice Facilitator, you will support the delivery of education, workforce development, and clinical learning initiatives that promote professional growth, competence, and the provision of safe, high-quality patient care.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking an experienced perioperative practitioner who can support the full range of clinical services within the directorate. Working closely with the Practice Educator and wider education team, you will support the delivery of high-quality education, training, and workforce development initiatives within the perioperative environment while driving quality improvement and the achievement of organisational and service priorities.
In this role, you will champion evidence-based practice, continuous professional development, and high standards of patient care, contributing to a supportive and inclusive learning environment, fostering a positive learning culture, and supporting quality improvement initiatives that align with organisational and service objectives.

- NMC Registered Nurse (Child or Adult) or HCPC Registered Operating Department Practitioner
- Evidence of on-going continuing professional development within the speciality
- A student supervisor/ assessor or Mentorship qualification
- A relevant post-registration accredited clinical course
Desirable criteria
- Leadership or management training
Experience/Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience at Band 6 in one or more of the following areas: Scrub, Anaesthetics, Recovery, Interventional Radiology/Cardiac Cath, Day Surgery, Pre-op Assessment, or on a surgical ward
- Teaching, mentoring and supervising students and staff
- Experience of coordinating and managing patient care
- Handling child protection issues according to Trust policies and procedures
- Excellent speciality knowledge relevant to the department
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of change management and problem solving
- Previous experience of research and audit
