Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity is looking for an experienced Copywriter to join our Content team. A key member of the Content team, you’ll help shape compelling fundraising and brand communications while maintaining high editorial standards across the charity. The salary for this position is £36,011 per annum and we operate a hybrid working policy, requiring the successful candidate to work from our London office at least two days per week.
In line with our EDI strategy and Total Reward policy, we calculate our salaries based on benchmarking data across the charity sector. To ensure fairness for existing staff and new joiners, we do not offer salaries above the advertised rate.
Key Responsibilities
- No two days are the same, so you’ll be an adaptable and organised writer who can confidently manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- You’ll have experience writing fundraising or supporter-focused copy within a charity or not-for-profit organisation and understand how to create persuasive, audience‑led content that motivates supporters to engage and take action.
- As well as being a strong writer and editor, you’ll be proactive, collaborative and confident building relationships with stakeholders across an organisation.
- You’ll be comfortable taking ownership of day‑to‑day projects while working closely with the Senior Copywriter on high‑profile campaigns and strategic projects.
- You’ll have a genuine passion for storytelling and meticulous attention to detail.
- You’ll bring creativity, curiosity and a strong editorial eye, and enjoy working with colleagues to create impactful, audience‑focused communications.
In this role, you will:
- Work closely with the Senior Copywriter to deliver compelling copy, messaging and editorial support across fundraising campaigns, supporter communications, digital content, events and brand activity.
- Manage the production of our annual donor magazine, including conducting interviews, writing articles, editing and assisting with art direction.
- Champion our tone of voice and editorial standards, helping to embed best practice copywriting and ensuring consistency, accuracy and cohesion across all campaigns and channels.
- Build strong working relationships with colleagues across the charity, confidently managing feedback and helping to upskill and empower staff to feel confident using our tone of voice.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Excellent grasp of the English language, including exceptional spelling, grammar and punctuation and the ability to proofread your own and others’ work.
- Experience writing compelling and persuasive copy for a range of audiences and channels.
- Experience in revising or redeveloping copy in line with a brand’s tone of voice.
- Experience writing fundraising or supporter-focused copy within a charity or not-for-profit organisation.
- Comfortable managing projects independently, using initiative and knowing when to seek guidance.
- Experience working on a print publication and as part of an editorial team.
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain creative ideas and nurture strong relationships with colleagues across all levels.
- Excellent organisation, project management and prioritisation skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
About the team
This role sits in the GOSH Charity Content team, made up of copy, film and content marketing experts who tell the stories of patients, families and staff at Great Ormond Street Hospital, showcase the impact of the charity and help build our supporter base. The Content team is positioned in the wider Brand team (made up of Content, Creative and Brand Marketing) within the Marketing and Communications team.
