Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH) is the leading hospital for children in the UK and renowned the world over for its dedication to paediatric research and medicine. This extensive strategic investment in Information Management and Technology builds on our existing systems to deliver digital enhancements across all aspects of care. We have a strong enterprise electronic patient record (EPR) which sits at the very heart of the Trust digital footprint.
Main duties of the job
We have an exciting opportunity for a talented and experienced technical engineer to join our ICT Directorate in the role of ICT Senior Technical Engineer. You will be responsible for:
– Maintenance and day-to-day operation of the server, application and cloud services in line with policy and procedures.
– Availability of the Trust’s entire server environment, both physical and virtual, including the Citrix estate.
– Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (formerly System Centre Configuration Manager).
– Ensuring that updates pushed out via the Endpoint Configuration Manager are fully tested and delivered in a controlled and timely manner.
This is a crucial and challenging role and you will play a key part in supporting the ICT Directorate to achieve ICT Technical Operations objectives and deliver results.

Education, training and qualifications
- Educated to Masters Level or significant equivalent experience
- One or more technical certification, such as MSCE, MSCA, MTA, MCSA, CCNA, CCP, CCA, VCA, VCP
- Specialist training on at least 5 of the following: Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft 365, Citrix. Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD), Citrix Netscaler ADC, VMWARE vSphere , Endpoint Configuration Manager (SCCM MECM), PowerShell.
- Relevant project management experience, including production of project plans, resource planning and goal setting
- Training in Cloud Infrastructure and Linux.
Skills and abilities
- Demonstrable organisational, analytical and strategic level planning skills
- Strong team working skills, with the ability to inspire staff into achieving a common goal
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate, negotiate and influence staff at all levels in the organisation
- Ability to engage and negotiate with suppliers to identify beneficial outcomes of operational and project-related problems
- Demonstratable scripting knowledge: Bash, Batch and PowerShell
- Ability to work across institutions and boundaries between healthcare sectors to formulate and implement IT projects and deliver agreed benefits
Knowledge & Experience
- Significant experience configuring and managing a Microsoft Active Directory forest and the related server and back office technologies generally found within.
- Good knowledge of current protocols and standards, including Active Directory, Group Policies, Cloud Services, Virtualization, Business Continuity, App delivery services, Disaster Recovery.
- Significant and demonstrable technical knowledge of Datacentre based technologies and standards
- Experience of managing stakeholders, ensuring high quality and timely communications across project groups and organisational management
