Job overview
The Compassionate Medicines Programme (CMP) at GOSH was recently launched with the support of a Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) charity grant. At GOSH we care for some of the sickest children in the UK, many with rare diseases that have no proven or commissioned treatments. For these children and their families, access to innovative medicines can mean the difference between life, death or lifelong disability. Yet too often, effective medicines available to adults are not licensed or funded for children, leaving them with limited options. This programme will both protect access to lifesaving drugs and develop
an infrastructure to maximise the information we get from these treatments.
As a Data Scientist at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), you will work with the pharmacy and the Digital Research Environment (DRE) teams using GOSH electronic patient record (EPR) data to design and conduct studies that have the potential to improve patient care. The work will be primarily within the CMP but may also include other projects that are relevant to CMP.
Main duties of the job
You will mostly focus on working within the evidence generation workstream and Real World Evidence (RWE), developing studies using advanced statistical and causal inference techniques to answer questions on efficacy and safety of medicines in children using Electronic Health Record (EHR) datasets. Together with the co-leads for other workstreams, you are expected to develop a process for research questions around the use of medicines within CMP to be assessed and for the process to then be implemented as future routine practice.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on a novel and innovative programme and to be at the forefront of evidence generation within research for paediatrics. A large part of the research will be using electronic health records which requires a candidate with advanced data science and research skills. Please see the job description and person specification for more details.
