Clinical Nurse Specialist Band 7 – Home Dialysis Therapies 1-Year Fixed-Term Secondment for maternity leave cover

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a 1-year fixed-term secondment for a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist within the Home Dialysis Therapies Team. This role is split equally between Peritoneal Dialysis (50%) and Home Haemodialysis (50%), providing expert clinical care, education and support to patients receiving home-based renal replacement therapies.

The successful candidate will work alongside the multidisciplinary renal team to deliver specialist care across both home dialysis services, supporting patients from initial assessment and therapy selection through to training, ongoing management and long term follow-up. You will play a key role in promoting home dialysis therapies, empowering patients to become independent in the management of their treatment while ensuring safe, effective and evidence-based care. This post will include 2 Saturdays per month on the haemodialysis unit.

This autonomous clinical role requires an experienced renal nurse with excellent assessment, communication and leadership skills. The post holder will contribute to the development of both the Peritoneal Dialysis and Home Haemodialysis services through patient education, staff training, service development, audit and quality improvement initiatives. Working collaboratively with consultants, advanced clinical practitioners, specialist nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will help deliver a high quality, patient-centred home therapies service.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will have:

• Competence in both Peritoneal Dialysis and NxStage Home Haemodialysis.
• Experience assessing, training and supporting patients and their families undertaking home dialysis therapies.
• Excellent clinical assessment and autonomous decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to educate and motivate patients, carers and colleagues.
• Experience teaching, mentoring and assessing staff competencies.
• The ability to work independently whilst contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
