We are looking for someone who can deliver consistently high levels of service through our retail outlets, including the coffee bar, hot counter, tills, and hospitality. The ideal candidate will take up the reins and provide a high level of service across all customer-facing outlets, whether serving food, making coffees, keeping the area clean, operating the tills, or personally supporting customers' needs.

We seek a team player with a “can do” attitude who is willing to go the extra mile whenever possible. The candidate should have experience in managing a diverse team and motivating them to excel and deliver great standards of customer service. They should actively drive from the front and set great examples.

Main duties of the job:

  • Lead and support the service of food and beverages to trust staff, visitors, patients, and families, ensuring correct portion size, presentation, and temperature as detailed in the catering standard operating procedures.
  • Manage and record staff absence in line with the trust policy and report to the line manager.
  • Support the management of and charging of agreed prices in all catering outlets as detailed in the catering standard operating procedures.
  • Support the management of all cash handling, transactions, cash counting, float production, and all transactional related duties in line with standard operational procedures.
  • Manage the correct stock levels in each area of the retail catering service, ordering products as directed by the head of catering.
  • Audit stock levels and stock rotation to reduce wastage, ensuring that all retail products are within the “use by date” at all times.
  • Ensure that all personal hygiene and working areas and methods are always of a high standard.
  • Be responsible for auditing and verification of the cleaning of the food service areas and equipment when on duty.
  • Always maintain a safe working environment.
  • Any other reasonable duty or task required by Catering Manager, Assistant, Deputy Manager, or Head of Catering.

  • A good knowledge of barista style coffee service and quality fresh food service.
  • Experience of EPOS systems and safety & electronic transactions.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office.
  • An understanding of GOSH and hospital catering in general – will have researched prior to interview.

  • Excellent interpersonal relationships with peers and members of staff.
  • Must be able to self-motivate and set excellent standards of work, presentation, and service for the catering team.
  • Must be able to use PC/Laptop/Tablet and Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to learn new tasks and share your knowledge, developing the skills of junior staff.
  • You will need to have a positive and enthusiastic attitude and be well-motivated to succeed.
