Trust Fellow (Equivalent of ST3+) in Paediatric Gastroenterology

Recruitment Start date of Position: 3rd March 2025 , subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks.

We are looking to appoint a Trust Fellow to join the Paediatric Gastroenterology services at Great Ormond Street Hospital. The appointment will be fixed term for 12 months with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement.

The successful applicant will be required to commence on the start date of March 2025 and is subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks. This post is subject to regular appraisal and a 3-month probationary period. There may be an opportunity to extend this beyond the fixed term period, as part of the applicant’s clinical appraisal and in line with departmental requirements.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain or extend your clinical experience in Paediatric Gastroenterology, in the unique and supportive environment of Great Ormond Street Hospital. MRCPCH part I or equivalent is essential for this ST3 post. The post is not recognised for training, but the appointee will be treated equitably to trainees in recognised training posts.

The post-holder will enjoy a working environment of formal training and education and will be required to work closely with the other members of the Gastroenterology team. They will be encouraged to take an active role in the department’s ongoing program of audit and clinical research.

Main Duties of the Job

This is a Trust Fellow in Paediatric Gastroenterology for 12 months at ST2/3+ level, with an opportunity to extend for a longer period, as part of your job appraisal and review. Many of our fellows will work with us for 12-18 months, progressing to senior clinical fellows in gastroenterology (subject to successful interview). The post provides a unique and exciting opportunity for training in Gastroenterology, in one of the largest units in the UK. The post is well supported and would suit candidates with more clinical experience, but limited exposure to working within the NHS.

The post holder will be one of a team delivering high-quality clinical care to patients with gastro-intestinal conditions. The post holder will be providing care within our specialist gastroenterology ward, and as part of our outreach service to children elsewhere within the hospital. They will also provide support to patients from our subspecialty areas (neuro-gastroenterology and motility, mucosal immunology & Intestinal failure and rehabilitation), and have the opportunity to attend clinic and observe endoscopy.

This role also includes out of hours working, providing you with the opportunity to experience multiple specialties within the Specialised Medicine group (Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Metabolic Medicine, Dermatology, Rheumatology and Nephrology).

• Primary medical qualification – MBBS or equivalent
• Full GMC registration with Licence to Practice (or application in process) or IELTS Certificate with an overall score of 7.5 or Occupational English Test (medicine version) with a minimum score of ‘B’ in each domain.
• Paediatric experience (including gastroenterology) for more than 2 years, at post-graduate level (doctor), including training in paediatric resuscitation (APLS or equivalent)
• Paediatric experience in paediatric gastroenterology for more than 1 year, at post-graduate level (doctor)
• MRCP, MRCPCH or equivalent – there is training within GOSH to obtain these, if required in the future
• Demonstration of interest in Paediatric Gastroenterology
• Higher degree – MSc, MPhil related discipline

Experience/Knowledge

• Experience in paediatric gastroenterology
• Experience of audit activities
• Understanding of principles of clinical governance
• Broad knowledge of paediatric medicine
• Confident in the management of paediatric emergency, for a range of medical specialities,

• Published research in peer-reviewed journals, with evidence of experience in developing research, audit or improvement projects
