Research Management and Governance Officer – Research and Innovation

This is an exciting opportunity to further your career in Research Governance at Europe’s largest centre for research into child health. You will be responsible for providing a Research Governance service to match the world leading research conducted at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (ICH). As Research Management and Governance Officer you will be involved in the management and development of GOSH and ICH wide systems of R&D Research Permissions particularly HRA Approvals and dealing with the changing environment of Research Governance processes.

The main roles of the post are to assist with the development, monitoring and assessment of systems to ensure that all research at GOSH/ICH is compliant with the Department of Health’s UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research and legislative requirements such as the Human Tissue Act, Data Protection Act, the International Conference on Harmonisation Good Clinical Practice Guidelines (ICH-GCP) and EU Clinical Trials Directive.

The post holder will also be involved in the implementation and maintenance of systems to deliver the Research Management and Governance (RM&G) objectives of the Health Research Authority (HRA), local Clinical Research Network (CRN) and local Trust policies. They will have responsibility for proactively managing the Trust’s NIHR portfolio studies and non-adopted studies and provide Research Governance training and support to the Division in relation to their R&D responsibilities.

The successful applicant will have a relevant health and life sciences degree or professional qualification. They will have an understanding of and/or previous experience in R&D governance administration/management in either the NHS or an academic environment. They will have excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills and have an ability to handle difficult situations in a perceptive manner. They will also be self-motivated and be able to plan and organise a large workload to meet both internal and external deadlines.

A good working knowledge and understanding of the Department of Health UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research, Data Protection Act, Human Tissue Act and the EU Clinical Trials Directive and HRA approval process is essential and post-qualification work experience in undertaking medical/clinical research would be desirable. You will need to be flexible, motivated, confident and creative and bring a new dimension to the Governance Team.
