The Deputy Named Safeguarding Professional is a senior member of the CYPGS Safeguarding Service, providing an operational leadership role whilst promoting and delivering on a robust culture of safe and effective practice across the organisation. The post holder will be critical in the development and delivery of the training strategy, providing case consultation and advice to all staff, as well as actively contributing to the strategic development of the safeguarding children and adult agenda within the Trust.
Main duties of the job:
- Provide specialist advice, supervision, training, and support on safeguarding issues to clinical and operational staff within the service as well as our external safeguarding partners.
- Assist other professionals within the service to protect children and young people at risk from harm and abuse.
- Identifying and supporting children and young people and their families who need additional care; as well as providing appropriate signposting or referrals to relevant organisations or agencies.
- Contribute to the on-going development of a robust approach, process, and procedures in how the service responds to the need of the children and young people at risk using the service, considering the requirements of national and local safeguarding initiatives.
- Assist in developing robust clinical governance and quality assurance systems to monitor and evaluate safeguarding practice across the service.
- Support the Safeguarding Lead and operational group to further develop and fully implement an agreed strategy for safeguarding training – delivering a robust and flexible training programme and monitoring uptake and effectiveness.
Person specification:
- RN Children/RSCN, SCPHN (Health Visiting /School Nursing or equivalent) OR Registered Social Worker (Social Work England)
- Post registration education in child protection/safeguarding children module at graduate level or prepared to work towards master’s Level
- Evidence of comprehensive and up to date Continuing Professional Development
- Completion of a Safeguarding Supervisors course.
- Recognised teaching qualification
- Participation on leadership programme D32/33 Assessor’s Course
- Have completed or willing to complete a “Train the Trainers Course” in Safeguarding Children/Adults
Experience/Knowledge:
- Extensive post-qualifying experience and theoretical understanding of safeguarding children, young people and families or vulnerable adults
- Knowledge and understanding of child & adolescent development, parenting capacity, environmental factors, and risk & protective factors.
- Experience of working with complex safeguarding cases
- Experience of contributing to delivering, planning and evaluation of training to groups
- Evidence of participation in governance, including undertaking audit and review.
- Experience of or willingness to undertake training on sound reflective coaching/models of supervision.
- Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate relevant evidence-based practice and experience of utilising this in practice.
- Experience of collaborative inter-agency working.
- Evidence of supporting the learning and development of others.
- Demonstration of in depth knowledge and understanding of current safeguarding children legislation and guidance.
- Evidence of participation in the development of teaching programmes
- Awareness of the sensitive nature of safeguarding work; including issues of equal opportunities, confidentiality, and information sharing.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of Modern Slavery, Prevent and Domestic Abuse processes, including MARAC
- Relevant experience in senior clinical or management role/s
- Evidence of working as a supervisor / assessor
- Awareness of current adult safeguarding legislation and guidance, including the Care Act (2014), the Mental Capacity (Amendment) Act (2019)
- Experience of working with children or young people who are gender questioning.
