The Opportunity
Right in the heart of York, on Church Lane, Yates sits moments from the River Ouse, the Shambles and the iconic York Minster. It’s a location that delivers consistent, high footfall from morning through to late night, drawing in a mix of tourists, students, shoppers and local professionals. With its blend of historic surroundings and a vibrant nightlife, this is a flagship, high-energy site that really comes into its own as the week builds into busy weekends. The venue itself is a large, two-floor operation, there’s a strong food and sports offer during the day, a spacious beer garden with an outdoor bar, and a well-established late-night business driven by student nights, DJs and live music. It’s fast paced, high volume and full of opportunity for the right operator to really make their mark.
About You
We’re looking for a General Manager who thrives in a business of this scale and pace; someone who is naturally sales driven and knows how to unlock every part of the offer to maximise performance across the entire week. You’ll have a strong track record of driving volume with food, sport and late-night environments, and you’ll be confident in reading your market and adjusting the rhythm of the business to suit a varied and demanding guest base. Operationally, you’ll set the tone. This is a big site that needs consistently high standards in every area, from the bar and kitchen through to guest experience and compliance. You’ll be visible, hands-on and lead from the front, creating a culture where high standards are the norm and the team take pride in what they deliver every day. Just as important is your ability to build, engage and develop a large team. You’ll bring energy, clarity and direction, creating an environment where people feel motivated, supported and fully bought into delivering great results. Coaching and developing future talent will be a key part of your approach, ensuring the team is set up for long-term success. Given the city-centre location and late-night trade, you’ll also be comfortable managing risk and operating safely in a busy, high-volume environment. You’ll understand the importance of compliance and be confident in building strong relationships with local authorities, protecting both the licence and the reputation of the business.
This is a fantastic opportunity to take on a flagship venue with huge potential, where your commercial focus, operational discipline and people development skills will make a real difference.
Please Note: To be eligible to apply, you MUST hold a valid Personal Licence.
