DESCRIPTION
The Onji Akiing (From the Earth) Cultural Summer Camp Program is a collaborative effort between the Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission and the United States Department of Agriculture – Forest Service. The camp focuses on the Medicine Wheel, addressing physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects through adventure-based learning workshops. The program aims to promote treaty rights awareness, strengthen outdoor relationships, and foster careers in natural resources infused with traditional ecological knowledge for youth entering grades 5-8.
Responsibilities:
  1. Oversee the health of campers and staff, totaling approximately 80 individuals.
  2. Review camper health forms, including preliminary lice checks.
  3. Identify health needs for each camper.
  4. Oversee and maintain proper storage of medications and supplies.
  5. Triage injuries and illnesses that may occur.
  6. Administer over-the-counter and prescription medications.
  7. Possess knowledge of public health disease management.
  8. Be on-call, including overnight hours.
  9. Maintain strong communication skills and positive interactions with parents, staff, and youth.
  10. Enjoy working and living in a camp environment.
