DESCRIPTION
The Onji Akiing (From the Earth) Cultural Summer Camp Program is a collaborative effort between the Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission and the United States Department of Agriculture – Forest Service. The camp focuses on the Medicine Wheel, addressing physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects through adventure-based learning workshops. The program aims to promote treaty rights awareness, strengthen outdoor relationships, and foster careers in natural resources infused with traditional ecological knowledge for youth entering grades 5-8.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the health of campers and staff, totaling approximately 80 individuals.
- Review camper health forms, including preliminary lice checks.
- Identify health needs for each camper.
- Oversee and maintain proper storage of medications and supplies.
- Triage injuries and illnesses that may occur.
- Administer over-the-counter and prescription medications.
- Possess knowledge of public health disease management.
- Be on-call, including overnight hours.
- Maintain strong communication skills and positive interactions with parents, staff, and youth.
- Enjoy working and living in a camp environment.
