The Mechanical Fitter will be responsible for the safe maintenance, repair or replacement of parts of plant, equipment and systems. As part of a small and dedicated maintenance team, you will undertake all aspects of mechanical repairs. This may also include some fabrication and welding duties necessary to keep the plant operational and serviced in accordance with the site’s maintenance schedules.
Duties:
- Undertake maintenance, inspection, and repair of plant in accordance with the agreed maintenance regime, including scheduling new tasks.
- Ensure that machinery and equipment meet safety regulations.
- Intervene in the event of breakdowns, failures or malfunctions.
- Set up equipment efficiently based on a sound technical understanding of the equipment and its functionality.
- Liaise with and manage suppliers and contractors to ensure the best possible service is delivered to the company.
- Diagnose mechanical issues with equipment/facility and facilitate repair.
- Work in confined spaces and at height.
Skills & Experience:
- In-depth knowledge of complex mechanical, facility & electromechanical equipment.
- Ideally, time served or City & Guilds or BTEC National qualification or equivalent in mechanical/electrical engineering.
- Good problem‑solving skills with a methodical approach.
- Ability to work in a varied role, effectively on multiple tasks in parallel.
- Self‑motivated, conscientious, able to communicate effectively and work independently or as part of a team.
- Well organised, good planning skills with an eye for detail.
- Acutely aware of all H&S aspects and a strong understanding of isolation and lockout procedures.
- A strong mechanical and electrical skillset, ideally with an emphasis on mechanical engineering.
- Full UK driving licence.

- Computer literate with experience of Microsoft Office programs.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Good Health & Safety knowledge and attitude – understanding of and experience of carrying out risk assessments.

- Knowledge of lift, scaffold towers, forklift truck operation.
