Great British Energy is looking for an Investment Lead to join our Onshore or Offshore investment team. This role will play a key part in contributing to projects, objectives, and wider organisational goals. Location: Aberdeen (also open to applicants based in Edinburgh; advertised separately on LinkedIn).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the origination, evaluation, structuring, and execution of renewable energy investment opportunities, including co-development deals, acquisitions, and joint ventures.
  • Manage end-to-end commercial negotiations with counterparties, including term sheets, heads of terms, and full contractual documentation.
  • Present investment cases and make recommendations to GBE’s Investment Committee, working with colleagues across technical, legal, and financial disciplines to ensure robust analysis and decision-making.
  • Coordinate due diligence efforts with external advisors, identifying key risks and mitigation strategies for proposed investments.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with commercial partners to unlock new opportunities for GBE to invest in and accelerate clean energy delivery.
  • Provide expert advice on the commercial viability of projects, ensuring investments align with strategic, financial, and policy objectives.
  • Prepare clear, evidence-based investment papers and decision materials for internal governance and stakeholder communication.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Strong experience in executing investment or financing transactions in the renewable energy or wider energy infrastructure sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead commercial negotiations and structure complex deals, including joint ventures, partnerships, co-investments, or acquisitions.
  • Familiarity with investment processes including due diligence, financial modelling, risk analysis, and legal documentation.
  • Ability to assess technical and financial information quickly and distil it into actionable investment decisions.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience working across internal teams and external advisors.
  • Clear understanding of project finance and financial modelling.
  • Experience of successfully developing and presenting complex business cases to internal stakeholders.
  • Degree in finance, economics, law, accounting, or a related STEM subject, and/or a professional qualification such as CFA, ACA, CIMA, or ICAEW; strong relevance to investment, corporate finance, or infrastructure finance preferred.
  • Proven ability to deliver transactions in a fast-moving, multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Investment experience covering GBE’s focus clean energy technologies (Onshore wind, Solar, Flexible storage, Deepwater wind).
  • Experience in managing energy investments in different stages of the project lifecycle including early development, construction and operation.
  • Understanding of ESG principles and how they apply to infrastructure investments.
