Great British Energy - Nuclear is an arm’s length body of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, dedicated to supporting the development and deployment of new nuclear technologies in Great Britain. We play a crucial role in advancing nuclear new build, ensuring the UK’s energy security and achieving net-zero carbon emissions. Great British Energy - Nuclear focuses on fostering innovation, facilitating investment, and coordinating efforts across the nuclear industry to build a resilient and sustainable energy future.

Great British Energy - Nuclear’s first step was to start the technology selection process for Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) in 2023. SMRs can potentially be quicker to deploy and less expensive to build than traditional nuclear power plants because they are smaller, have factory based modular manufacturing and more flexible deployment options. In June 2025, Great British Energy - Nuclear announced that Rolls-Royce SMR was selected as the preferred bidder to build the UK’s first SMRs, following a technology selection process that began in 2023.

Great British Energy - Nuclear is aiming to deliver fast, based on a supportive and collaborative culture which values equality and diversity and creates an inclusive workplace. We draw on deep nuclear expertise – our Executive Committee has over 100 years of nuclear experience at home and abroad. GBE-N will unlock billions of pounds of private and public investment from design to operation, helping to get sites ready for development, and working to grow manufacturing capacity and skills capability.

The Environmental Regulator Engagement Coordinator will join GBE-N’s growing, friendly and enthusiastic Safety, Licensing and Assurance (SLA) team, as part of the Regulatory Engagement Office (REO). The REO team aims to create a holistic approach to working with regulators and UK statutory bodies that will bring consistency, efficiency, balance, clarity and high impact benefits to the delivery of an SMR power plant at Wylfa (plus continued assessment work for Oldbury).

Effective, meaningful and regular engagement between GBE-N, regulators and UK statutory bodies (e.g. the Natural Resources Wales, the Environment Agency, Natural England, the Marine Management Organisation and Historic England) is crucial to the success of the Wylfa SMR project. This role will be an essential part of making sure these engagements work not only for GBE-N, but also for the regulators, statutory bodies and the community of Anglesey.

The role is primarily for the management of the quality, consistency and administration of formal regulator interactions (communications and meetings). The role will work alongside GBE-N specialists in environmental assessment, permissioning and waste management, as well as wider teams dealing with environmental and nuclear regulations compliance.

We are looking for candidates with experience in this type of role and preferably in the nuclear industry. Work with the Regulatory Engagement Manager to support development, implementation of and compliance with formal REO working arrangements. Support the environmental teams with regulatory engagement administration e.g. the production, coordination and quality control of action tracking, correspondence, meeting agendas, packs and minutes. Support positive relationship building. Support effective bilingual (Welsh and English) communications between GBE-N and stakeholders. Support tracking and reporting of contract budgets and schedules. Support performance monitoring, reporting and improvement.

Experience using Microsoft Office suite e.g. Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Word, Excel. Knowledge of environmental assessment or permitting. Experience working in the nuclear, or other highly regulated industry. Fluent Welsh and English speaker. A technical background in environmental assessment or permissioning is desirable.
