Role Overview
This role is responsible for providing professional and technical support in the assurance of achieving compliance with environmental minimum requirements. It ensures that design and construction is in accordance with organisational and sponsor requirements and policies, environmental commitments, environmental law and regulations. The role is also responsible for providing guidance on environmental design solutions and ensuring environmental issues and constraints are key considerations in project design.

- Complex problem solving – ability to identify complex problems, review, analyse and interpret a wide range of data, evaluate options and implement solutions consistent with other work.
- Decision making – ability to gather and synthesise information, identify options and apply judgement based on logic and reason and make use of a variety of analytical approaches to provide relevant information to suppliers, stakeholders and decision makers using key facts and data.
- Technical leadership – specialist technical support and leadership on all discipline‑specific scientific, technical and environmental principles, knowing when to seek further guidance from subject matter experts.
- Communication – ability to communicate many discipline‑specific technical ideas to colleagues, based on a mix of training and examples of application.
- Data management – applies principles and methods that ensure effective information management, modelling and data security, basic understanding of data creation and visualisation, working under the supervision of the line manager or in liaison with relevant subject matter experts.
Knowledge
- Applicable UK environmental law and other relevant construction (including CDM) regulations.
- Understanding of the regulatory/legislative framework relevant to HS2.
- Commercial awareness including understanding of cost delivery, schedule targets and the need to deliver an integrated solution that meets all functional requirements.
- Membership of an appropriate professional institution or equivalent experience.
Experience
- Experience in managing standards, engineering and environmental activity on large complex major projects/programmes.
- Experience of managing competing project, engineering and environmental demands, with cost and schedule implications.
