Part of the Culina Group, Great Bear is the flexible, agile ambient 3PL alternative. Great Bear is a key player in ambient 3PL with an extensive depot network and some brand new, state of the art facilities. Great Bear is a successful business with ambitious growth aspirations.
Responsible for the 24/7 Transport operations, managing the Transport Supervisors and supporting the Transport Manager in ensuring that costs are controlled in line with budget / forecast expectations. Working any 5 in 7, typically Monday to Friday, 06.00-14.00/14.00-22.00.
Key Duties of a Transport Shift Manager:
- Manage the Depot Transport staff to execute Traffic plans to enable delivery of products to customers within agreed service levels.
- Reduce non contract maintenance and damage spends through the use of vehicle passports, monitoring of defects being raised.
- Ensure that all available fleet is on the road and declared to enable the Planning Team to plan the resource.
- Manage the resourcing for the site through effective planning of both core drivers and shift patterns through to daily and weekly resourcing of agency drivers.
- Manage holiday allocations of drivers ensuring there is enough resource to meet with customer requirements.
- Motivate and develop the team through engagement, training and personal development plans.
- Ensure all staff are fully trained and have the correct equipment.
- Manage any incidents and accidents and follow the process through investigations and the EOA system.
- Be responsible for Kronos monitoring and approving drivers clocking on and off shift.
- Ensure that the Transport team and drivers comply with all relevant regulations and site procedures.
- Ensure annual MOTs and service intervals on all fleet equipment are carried out on time and the relevant paperwork is obtained.
- Attend Monthly Customer review meetings in the absence of the Transport Manager.
- Support implementation of service improvements in conjunction with customers and other areas of the business.
- Generate and implement ideas with regards to staff and operational changes, which will help drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure a secure and safe environment for staff, both in your department and across the wider business.
- Manage and carry out monthly site audit ensuring that all processes are being followed in line with Culina Group policy.
Qualifications:
- Proven track record in Transport & Logistics industry.
- Previous supervisory experience within a busy transport environment.
- Excellent understanding of Health and Safety processes.
- Planning and organising skills with a high level of numeracy.
- An effective communicator at all levels, good verbal and written skills.
- National and International CPC qualification desirable.
- Thrives in a fast paced, challenging and dynamic environment.
- Ability to maintain the very highest levels of attention to detail even when under pressure.
- Excellent Microsoft Office knowledge including Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
