We have an exciting new opportunity to join the team at Great Bear as an
EHS Manager , based at our site in Markham Vale.
As an EHS Manager, you will play a critical role in driving a culture of risk-based decision-making across the organisation.
You will coach, train and support Site Management Teams and Regional Health & Safety Leads, enabling them to effectively balance risk while ensuring full compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Through the provision of expert knowledge and hands-on guidance, you will champion the practical application of SHEQ principles, ensuring these are embedded consistently across all operations.
You will also ensure that all advice and practices are aligned with the corporate risk strategy, promoting a standardised and proactive approach to health, safety, environmental and quality performance throughout the business.
Key responsibilities of an EHS Manager
- Actively drive the creation of a culture of risk based decision making in order to enable business objectives to be delivered most effectively.
- Align advice/guidance provided to Managers/SHEQ Leads with corporate strategy, ensuring compliance with all aspects of relevant legislation for H&S, BRC, Environmental Energy, Disaster Prevention and Insurance requirements and ensuring solutions are in scope of ISO standards and principles.
- Contribute to the development of H&S Strategy, Risk Plans and utilise KPI data to drive performance improvement and consistent delivery of Policy/Practice across the business.
- Deliver the Company’s Safety Management Systems, conducting reviews on SSOW and analyse incident trends contributing recommendations to the quest for continuous improvement.
- Communicate effectively and through a variety of mediums disseminate information on safety matters working in conjunction with Safety Committees to implement programmes that promote a positive safety culture.
- Contribute and provide input through the impairing of specialist knowledge, advice and guidance to incident investigations and coach Operational Managers on incident reporting where necessary.
- Support the design and delivery of a comprehensive programme of Safety Training, bespoke to the needs of individual job roles working in partnership with Operational Managers.
- Conduct regular Site Audits aligned to ISO standards and support with external audits cross the business liaising with GM’s and Head of Functions on Outputs, Monitoring of Improvements and evaluating ongoing compliance using HSE Guidelines, BRC requirements and Company Policy as the basis for content/measurement.
- Actively contribute and provide support that aids the achievement of Company Energy Reduction targets/commitments.
- Produce accurate and relevant KPIs to measure performance levels against agreed targets sharing data with Depot/Functional Management teams, Statutory Authorities and Customers as agreed and as appropriate
- Liaise with representatives of relevant official bodies and third party organisations.
- Assist with tender proposal/submission documentation
- Liaise with representatives of the relevant official bodies and third party organisations to develop best practice e. g.
Fire and building regulations; The Environment Agency etc.
- Maintain awareness of Environmental issues, Alternative Energy sources and changes in legislation.
- Attend monthly Health & Safety meetings at your sites.
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent
- Educated to A-level standard or equivalent
- Full driving licence
- Proven ability to drive/influence culture to promote a safety critical working environment
- Ability to form relationships, Partner with and Coach/Train/Develop/Influence Senior Managers.
- Ability to design and delivery Training through the mediums of Classroom, Individual Coaching and/or Toolbox Talks
- Experience of working with external auditors, contractors and suppliers to support accreditation processes and maintain assessment standards across multi-site environments
- Ability to influence, provide support and drive initiative/s within a target driven work environment
- Experience of Managing and/or Developing Policy/Procedure with a thorough and practical knowledge of accident investigation and root cause analysis
- Proven experience of working within a Risk Management role in a Safety Based cultural environment
- Detailed knowledge of Operational Risk Management Frameworks and Methodologies
- Demonstrable knowledge relative to the collation and publishing of critical KPI data
- Practical insight and understanding that enables postholder to provide comprehensive commentary on KPI outputs and implement recommendations to aid continuous improvement
- Comprehensive knowledge of Occupational Health requirement and Safety Risk Management
- In-depth knowledge of Environmental Impacts
