We are looking for a proactive and detail-driven Health & Safety Coordinator to support the continued success of our Great Bear Harworth DC1 site. This is a key role within a COMAH-regulated environment, responsible for ensuring high standards of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement across the operation.
Working closely with the Health, Safety & Compliance Manager, you will play a hands-on role in embedding a strong safety culture and maintaining effective H&S systems across the site. Some of the key responsibilities of the role will include:
- Risk Management & Compliance
- Conduct and develop Risk Assessments, ensuring appropriate control measures are implemented and maintained
- Produce and maintain Safe Systems of Work (SSOW)
- Complete specialist risk assessments where competent (e.g. COSHH)
- Ensure all H&S systems and procedures are compliant with COMAH requirements
- Contractor & Permit Control
- Manage contractor activity on-site, including permit-to-work systems
- Review and approve RAMS for third-party contractors
- Incident & Audit Management
- Support accident and incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Track and manage actions through to completion
- Assist with and lead internal audits, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement
- Ensure non-conformances and audit actions are effectively closed out
- Systems & Documentation
- Maintain H&S databases, software systems, and shared drives
- Manage controlled documentation and ensure accuracy and accessibility
- Support the maintenance and development of the H&S Management System
- Operational Safety & Monitoring
- Ensure completion of equipment checks and site inspections
- Maintain effective emergency response systems and procedures
- Support Fire Marshal training and wider emergency response readiness
- Engagement & Culture
- Play an active role in H&S meetings, including preparation, action tracking, and follow-up
- Promote a positive safety culture across all departments through coaching, guidance, and engagement
- Support delivery of H&S training where required
- Strategy & Continuous Improvement
- Work with the Health, Safety & Compliance Manager to deliver the site H&S strategic plan
- Drive improvements in safety performance and compliance across the operation
Qualifications
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Good IT skills with a sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Ability to work alone or as part of a team
- Conscientious and reliable
- Flexible attitude
- Strong, concise and effective communicator at all levels
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure
- Good time management skills
- Proactive with the ability to make decisions
- Have a good working knowledge within a Warehouse and Logistics operation
- IOSH/NEBOSH qualified (or working towards)
- Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and compliance (Health & Safety at Work Act 1974)
- Experience of creating Safe Systems of Work, Risk Assessments, etc. (desirable)
