It provides chilled, ambient, contract packaging, and bonded logistics services, as well as value-added services, such as online visibility and systems integration, pallet management, and supply chain management.
Joining Fowler Welch as an Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the management of the overall site operations and the achievement of operational KPI’s to meet budget and contractual expectations alongside the customer’s growth plans. You will also ensure the site drives a safety-focused culture while delivering excellent customer service both internally and externally.
Main Responsibilities:
- Lead and maintain a positive safety culture on site throughout the operation through proactive staff engagement and setting clear standards working in conjunction with our SHEQ team.
- Effective performance management of the operational team to deliver targets and to ensure that the warehouse, driver, and operational team are motivated and have the relevant skills, knowledge, and approach to contribute effectively to maximise efficiency, accuracy, and productivity in line with all targets.
- Manage driver/warehouse headcount and shift patterns, reviewing periodically to ensure they meet the requirements of the operation and the changing needs of the customer's business.
- Build and maintain a robust relationship with the customer to deliver their service requirements.
- Manage supplier relationships to ensure consistent service and help co-ordinate an efficient inbound flow.
- Produce and analyse data and provide structured feedback on daily, weekly, and monthly KPI performance as defined in the Services Agreement and agreed in period reviews. These KPIs will include operational and finance performance, service measures, safety, and people-related areas.
- Drive continuous improvement in areas of efficiency and service.
- Ensure site operations, policy, and procedures are managed in line with the company’s Health & Safety policy and other statutory compliance, including legal compliance.
- Monitor costs against pre-agreed budget targets and proactively look for ways to make the business more efficient. Explain variances proactively and suggest ways of improving performance.
- Manage fleet requirements to ensure appropriate mix of equipment to suit the needs of the operation and ensure fleet is managed to legal requirements.
- Oversee site recruitment and training with support from other functions.
- Liaise with colleagues on and off site to jointly ensure all operational matters are owned and efficiently resolved.
- Regularly engage with the site landlord to ensure both operations can co-exist while meeting both companies’ needs.
- Introduce new technology (e.g. On-board, Route planning, Scanners) and kit (e.g. Delivery Vehicles & MHE) as agreed with the customer.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years experience of national transport operations management in logistics.
- Minimum 5 years experience of managing people.
- Minimum 5 years experience of operational management gained within FMCG industry experience within a warehouse environment.
- Temperature controlled supply chain experience.
- Cost reduction and margin improvement.
- Commercial and change management experience.
