Great Basin Industrial is seeking a safe, reliable, and motivated Welder/Fitter to join our fast-paced fabrication team. This role performs shop fabrication and welding work by fitting, assembling, and welding components in a safe, accurate, and high-quality manner. The position may be filled at Levels 1–3 depending on experience, demonstrated skill, and ability to complete fabrication projects with increasing independence and complexity.

Responsibilities

  • Complete shop fabrication projects by fitting, assembling, and welding components from drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
  • Set up and operate fabrication equipment and perform welding in multiple positions using appropriate processes.
  • Inspect fit-up and weld quality to ensure finished work meets visual, dimensional, and job-specific quality standards.
  • Assist with layout, job set-up, parts preparation, clean-up, and other shop support duties as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while properly using and caring for company equipment and required PPE.
  • Work effectively with supervisors and coworkers, and perform other duties as assigned based on shop needs and skill level.

Qualifications

  • Ability to pass applicable welding tests based on position level and demonstrate the ability to produce quality welds that meet inspection requirements.
  • Ability to read tape measurements, perform basic shop math, and read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings.
  • Ability to set up and safely operate fabrication equipment and provide required personal fabrication tools as outlined by company policy.
  • Strong commitment to safe work practices, consistent PPE use, quality workmanship, and maintaining housekeeping standards in the work area.
  • Reliable attendance, positive attitude, strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English in person, verbally, and in writing, and represent the company in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and routinely perform physical duties including lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing stairs and ladders, standing and walking for extended periods, working in confined spaces, and occasional work in inclement weather.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug testing, and any required physical or background screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior welding education through a high school, trade school, or similar training program.
  • Experience in a shop fabrication environment, with level placement based on demonstrated welding, fitting, blueprint reading, and fabrication skills.
  • Ability to complete projects with increasing independence and, for advanced levels, assist with complex work and support less experienced team members.
  • Experience in steel plate construction, industrial fabrication, or similar heavy fabrication environments.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods (8–12+ hour shifts).
  • Stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl for prolonged periods.
  • Reach overhead and work with arms extended.
  • Climb ladders, work in manlifts up to 25 feet above ground.
  • Work in confined spaces and at elevated heights when required.

Work Environment

  • Exposure to dust, noise, and industrial hazards.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times.

Schedule Requirements

  • Ability to work extended hours, including overtime, weekends, or swing shifts as needed to meet project deadlines.
