The Swing Shift Foreman oversees second-shift operations across fabrication, material processing, and machining. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality production while leading teams through Leads and aligning all activities with production schedules and company standards.
Key Responsibilities- LEADERSHIP & TEAM MANAGEMENT
- Lead Fabrication, Processing, and Machine Shop personnel through department Leads
- Provide daily direction, coaching, and accountability
- Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement
- PRODUCTION PLANNING & EXECUTION
- Plan and assign daily work based on schedules
- Coordinate workflow between processing, machining, and fabrication
- Ensure all work orders, prints, and materials are ready for production
- Adjust manpower and priorities to meet deadlines
- PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT
- Track production rates, efficiency, and schedule adherence
- Monitor crew productivity and equipment utilisation
- Identify and resolve bottlenecks
- QUALITY OVERSIGHT
- Ensure compliance with ASME/API codes and WPS requirements
- Maintain weld quality and dimensional accuracy
- Ensure traceability, labeling, and documentation
- Partner with QA/QC to prevent and resolve defects
- SAFETY & EQUIPMENT
- Enforce PPE and safety procedures
- Ensure safe operation of all shop equipment
- Maintain housekeeping and coordinate maintenance
- WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
- Execute structured evaluation and progression system
- Train and mentor employees across departments
- Support cross-training and internal promotions
- Develop high performers and reduce turnover
- 5–10+ years in fabrication, processing, or machining
- Experience in code welding (FCAW, SAW required)
- Strong understanding of fabrication, machining, and tolerances
- Leadership experience in a shop environment
- Knowledge of ASME/API codes
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- On-time production completion
- Low rework rates
