We are working with a successful and growing wholesale and distribution business based in Hemel Hempstead to recruit a Logistics & Freight Coordinator. This is a newly created role, offering the successful candidate the opportunity to take real ownership of freight, transport and shipping activity across the business. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will become the main point of contact for UK and international shipments, freight providers, courier relationships and transport cost management. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage UK and international shipping activity.
  • Coordinate export shipments and container movements.
  • Obtain, compare and negotiate freight quotations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with carriers, couriers, freight forwarders and logistics providers.
  • Monitor shipments and proactively resolve delivery issues.
  • Manage transport bookings and shipping schedules.
  • Review supplier performance and benchmark logistics costs.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce transport spend.
  • Produce logistics reports and operational updates.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure goods are moved efficiently and on time.
  • Support planning during peak trading periods and special operational projects.
  • Maintain accurate logistics records and shipping documentation.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for someone with experience in logistics, freight forwarding, shipping, transport coordination or supply chain operations. You will need to be organised, proactive and confident dealing with suppliers, carriers and internal stakeholders. This role would suit someone who enjoys taking ownership, solving problems and improving processes.

Essential Experience

  • Experience in logistics, freight forwarding, shipping or transport coordination.
  • Experience managing UK and/or international shipments.
  • Experience liaising with carriers, couriers or freight providers.
  • Strong supplier relationship management skills.
  • Good understanding of shipping documentation and transport processes.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Desirable Experience

  • Import and export shipping experience.
  • Container movement experience.
  • Freight rate negotiation.
  • Customs documentation knowledge.
  • Experience within wholesale, distribution, retail, manufacturing or supply chain environments.
  • Experience reviewing supplier performance and identifying cost savings.
