We are recruiting a Practice Administrator for an established architectural practice in SW London. This is a permanent, full-time role and it is five days a week in the office. Rather than hiding that somewhere at the bottom of the advert, we think it is an important part of what makes this particular role attractive to the right person. Salary range £40000 - £47000 according to experience.
Do you actually enjoy being part of an office?
Not everyone wants to work from home.
Some people like getting up in the morning and going somewhere. They like knowing the people they work with, having conversations that are not scheduled on Teams and being part of what is happening around them.
If that sounds like you, this could be a really lovely opportunity.
You will be joining a friendly and diverse practice where people genuinely work together. Staff retention is excellent, with several members of the team having been with the business for many years. The role sits at the heart of the office, working alongside the existing Practice Coordinator and supporting the Practice Director, Partners, architects and wider team.
What will you be doing?
Quite a lot, and that is part of the appeal.
One day you might be welcoming visitors, answering calls and organising a CPD or travel arrangements. The next you could be helping an architect put together a presentation, updating the website, organising an office event or dealing with something that needs fixing.
The core of the role includes front-of-house and telephone support, meeting rooms, post and the central email inbox, project administration and document control, expenses and purchases, CPDs, travel and accommodation, office supplies, maintenance and liaising with IT.
There is also a more creative side. You could be helping to produce and format presentations, brochures and project documentation, updating the website and LinkedIn and supporting client and office events.
It is a role for somebody who likes variety and gets satisfaction from being useful.
Who would enjoy this role?
You are likely to be someone who notices that something needs doing and gets on with it.
You will be organised, personable and confident communicating with different people. You will need good attention to detail, strong Microsoft Office and Outlook skills and the ability to juggle several things without losing track of the small details.
You also need to be comfortable with the practical side of keeping an office running. There will be polished presentations and interesting projects, but there will also be deliveries to sort out, meeting rooms to prepare and everyday problems that simply need somebody to take ownership of them.
Experience with Adobe InDesign, Canva and WordPress or another website platform would be particularly useful. Experience with document management systems, corporate social media and organising events would also be welcome.
Previous experience in an architectural practice would be useful, but we are much more interested in finding someone with the right combination of office experience, attitude and personality.
This is a great role for someone who enjoys being an excellent coordinator and wants to keep developing their skills, taking on different responsibilities and becoming a really valued part of a business.
There is plenty to get involved in and scope for the role to develop around the strengths of the person who joins.
Being in the office matters
The working hours are 9.30am–6pm, Monday to Friday. For some people that will immediately rule the opportunity out, and that is absolutely fine.
But if you are tired of working alone at home, miss having colleagues around you and like the idea of going to work and actually being part of a team, this may be exactly what you have been looking for.
If you are an experienced Practice Administrator, Office Coordinator, Studio Coordinator, Team Assistant or Office Administrator looking for a role where you can genuinely become part of the business, we would love to hear from you.
