Purpose of the Role

The Head of Generative AI Direction will lead the BBC’s organisation-wide approach to Generative AI. The role is responsible for providing clear direction across the BBC, driving BBC priorities and leading engagement with industry on external priorities.

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact

  • Lead engagement on key industry issues and external priorities relating to AI, representing the BBC’s interests clearly and credibly, including representing the BBC in key partnerships.
  • Set the BBC’s approach to how our content is used in third-party AI systems, getting involved in delivery and relevant partnerships as required; and how the BBC can protect against unauthorised use of its content.
  • Lead key internal projects on the impact of AI on the BBC’s operating environment; BBC services and audiences.
  • Lead analysis of market developments, opportunities and implications relating to Generative AI, and advise senior stakeholders on their relevance for the BBC.
  • Provide expert support to the wider business on key AI issues.
  • Form part of a high-performing team, ensuring effective delivery across a complex and evolving area of work.
  • Lead the Generative AI Direction team, setting clear priorities, ways of working and accountability across the function.

Essential Criteria

Your Skills and Experience

  • Strong experience of complex strategic delivery and business transformation within a large organisation.
  • Strong understanding of the AI landscape, including market developments, industry issues and the implications for media, content and audiences.
  • Proven experience of working with senior leadership to establish common positions on complex, multi-disciplinary issues.
  • Experience of leading complex, cross-functional programmes of work and managing sensitive issues with sound judgement.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills, with the credibility to work effectively with senior leaders and external partners.
