Gravitilab Aerospace Services is based in Norwich and collaborates with launch partners in Scotland. We are a fast‑growing start‑up and industry pathfinder for microgravity testing services, driving the UK’s space science goals. With a patent‑pending UAV system, we seek an experienced UAV engineer to lead the next generation of UAV‑based systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, simulation, and testing of the next‑iteration variants of the LOUIS UAV system, keeping the project on track and managing resources efficiently.
- Organise project technical and operational documentation; design, develop, and verify systems using our proprietary NSEF systems engineering framework.
- Ensure system failure mechanisms are understood and controlled, implementing fail‑safe techniques and redundancy to meet Product Assurance & Design Standards (e.g., ECSS, NTSS, RTCA).
- Engage with third parties to secure consultancy, flight opportunities, operational permissions, outsourcing, and equipment as required.
Essential Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Electronics Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of industry experience.
- Minimum 1 year of project management experience.
- Strong knowledge and experience of UAV system design.
- Experience planning and undertaking tasks within the verification process.
Preferred Qualifications
- Awareness of ECSS standards and experience on projects through Phase 0/A to D/E.
- Experience with agile project management and tools such as Asana or Jira.
- Knowledge of relevant technical standards (e.g., RTCA, MIL, EUROCAE).
- Formal project management training or demonstrable evidence of successful project management.
- Experience submitting operating licences to airspace legislators (CCA, MAA).

- Ability to organise, prioritise, and manage work against critical project timelines in a fast‑paced start‑up.
- Open‑mind attitude and willingness to engage with a variety of tasks and duties.
- Communicative and personable teamwork style.
- Good Microsoft Office skills (Teams, Word, Excel, SharePoint).
- Very high standard of spoken and written English.
- Positive, proactive “can‑do” attitude and understanding of the new space start‑up environment.
