A growing retail business in Crediton is looking to appoint a commercially minded Finance Manager to take ownership of its financial reporting, management information, and finance systems. This is a hands-on role with genuine influence. You will sit at the heart of decision-making, ensuring the numbers don’t just add up but actively drive better performance across the business. This is not a passive reporting role. It’s for someone who wants to improve how the business understands itself through data.

The Role

  • Producing accurate and timely monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet and cashflow)
  • Delivering commercial insight to support trading, margin and stock decisions
  • Leading budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
  • Developing and improving financial systems, reporting tools and data flows
  • Acting as the finance partner to operational and commercial teams
  • Ensuring strong financial controls, reconciliations and audit readiness
  • Driving automation and process improvement within finance
  • Managing and developing junior finance staff (where applicable)

This role suits someone who enjoys getting under the bonnet of the numbers and the systems behind them, not just reporting performance, but improving how it’s measured and used.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience in a Finance Manager / Management Accountant type role
  • Background in retail, FMCG, wholesale or a similar fast-moving environment
  • Strong systems and data capability – comfortable improving ERP, reporting, Excel/BI tools and workflows
  • Commercially minded, with the ability to translate data into action
  • Hands-on, pragmatic and comfortable in a growing, evolving business
  • Part or fully qualified (ACA / ACCA / CIMA), or qualified by experience

Why Join?

  • Play a key role in a £35m turnover retail business with real operational influence
  • High visibility with senior leadership
  • Opportunity to shape systems, reporting and the future finance function
  • A business that values finance as a strategic partner, not a back-office function
  • Competitive salary and benefits, depending on experience
