An exciting opportunity has arisen with a leading global (re)insurer for a Senior Catastrophe Research Analyst to join their Risk Analytics function. This is a highly visible role, sitting close to underwriting, where you will take ownership of catastrophe research strategy and delivery. You will lead key initiatives including vendor model validation, development of a proprietary View of Risk, and deep-dive research into catastrophe trends across regions and perils.
Working in a collaborative and technically strong environment, you will engage with underwriting, capital partners, exposure management and external stakeholders, acting as a subject matter expert and thought leader in natural catastrophe risk.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and co-ordinate catastrophe research projects across the business
- Develop and implement Views of Risk across multiple perils/regions
- Validate and challenge vendor catastrophe models
- Deliver research into catastrophe frequency and severity
- Present insights internally and externally to senior stakeholders, brokers, and investors
- Provide real-time insight on active catastrophe events
- Represent the business at industry forums and build relationships with academia
- Strong academic background (PhD or MSc in a relevant scientific discipline)
- Deep understanding of catastrophe modelling and exposure management
- Experience within reinsurance and/or ILS markets
- Strong knowledge of vendor models and their limitations
- Excellent programming skills (Python, R, SQL)
- Commercial mindset with the ability to translate research into business decisions
- Confident communicator with experience engaging senior stakeholders
