We are seeking an experienced Programme Controls Manager/PMO Manager to join a high-profile transport programme located in the North of England. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring project governance, mentoring and supporting junior team members, and embedding best practice controls across the full programme lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include providing day-to-day support to the Programme Management Office (PMO), enhancing internal project controls and assurance frameworks, and regularly engaging with Project Managers to ensure documentation and reporting aligns with industry best practices.
Role: Programme Controls Manager
Day Rate: £400-450 DOE
IR35: Outside IR35
Location: Ideally 2 days per week in Manchester (client is happy with less onsite visits for a candidate who meets all the key requirements)
Start Date: ASAP (willing to wait for a candidate who meets all key requirements)
Essential Skills:
- Proven experience as a Programme Controls Manager/PMO Manager in the Rail sector.
- Deep understanding of Prince2 methodologies and project governance.
- Track record of leading teams and mentoring PMO professionals.
- Demonstrated experience maturing existing PMO processes.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and documentation review skills.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience on large-scale development programmes such as CrossRail, HS2 or TRU.
- Proficient in PPM software and tools for reporting and performance monitoring.
- Proven ability to support the design of programme assurance frameworks.
