The University is embarking on one of its most significant technology transformation programmes, replacing its existing Student Record System. You'll play a key role in modernising the University's core student systems and have significant influence over how data migration is planned, governed and delivered.
This is far more than a technical migration. The successful candidate will take ownership of one of the programme's most critical workstreams, ensuring student data is migrated from multiple databases, governed effectively and delivered in line with a fixed go live date next year.
Alongside the system implementation, an Azure integration layer is being developed by implementation partners to support integrations between systems. The project is currently at early stages, with data discovery underway across the University. You'll have the opportunity to shape the data migration approach, establish governance, work closely with academic and professional services teams, and build strong relationships with implementation partners.
If you enjoy bringing structure to complex programmes, working closely with stakeholders and translating business requirements into a clear delivery plan, this is an excellent opportunity to make a lasting impact.
What you'll be doing
You'll take ownership of the data migration workstream, working alongside the Programme Manager, technical teams and third party partners. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the end to end data migration workstream
- Working with faculties and business departments to define data requirements
- Prioritising data sets for migration
- Establishing clear governance and sign off processes
- Working with implementation partners including TechnologyOne specialists and integration partners
- Coordinating business SMEs, Registry, MIS and Faculty teams
- Managing stakeholder expectations throughout the programme
- Translating technical discussions into clear business language
- Ensuring data is available for testing and key programme milestones
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who has successfully delivered data migration projects within Higher Education and understands the complexity of student data. You'll ideally have experience of:
- Leading data migration projects involving SITS or another Student Records System
- TechnologyOne, Tribal SITS or equivalent Student Information Systems
- Working across multiple source systems and integrations
- Managing complex stakeholder groups
- Building governance processes and gaining business sign off
- Working with third party suppliers and implementation partners
Essential experience
This role would particularly suit someone who understands:
- The student lifecycle from applicant through to graduation
- Student record structures and curriculum data
- The relationship between student, course and academic data
- How student data changes throughout the academic lifecycle
- Data migration within Higher Education
The person
We're looking for someone who:
- Can assess a situation and build a practical delivery plan
- Is proactive rather than process driven
- Builds strong relationships with stakeholders
- Can challenge constructively when required
- Communicates complex technical issues simply
- Is organised, calm and credible with senior stakeholders
- Can balance technical understanding with business priorities
Current Challenges
The successful candidate will inherit a programme that is already underway. You'll need to:
- Pick up an existing workstream quickly
- Review and refine previous data discovery work
- Build stronger relationships with internal stakeholders
- Balance the recommendations of external implementation partners with the University's own operational knowledge
- Drive governance and business sign off to keep the programme on schedule
