Head of Governance and Risk – Contract Opportunity

Location: South East of England (Hybrid)

IR35 Status: TBC

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Head of Governance and Risk to lead and develop our organisation’s governance, compliance, and risk management framework. This is a critical role that ensures the organisation operates with integrity, transparency, and effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

1. Develop and implement governance and risk management strategies across the organisation.
2. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practice standards.
3. Provide expert advice to the board, senior leadership team, and stakeholders on governance and risk matters.
4. Establish and oversee risk management policies, frameworks, and procedures.
5. Monitor organisational risk and implement mitigating strategies where necessary.
6. Lead on internal audits, governance reviews, and compliance assessments.
7. Develop policies to ensure accountability, transparency, and ethical business practices.
8. Manage relationships with external regulatory bodies and auditors.
9. Deliver training and awareness programmes on governance, risk, and compliance.
10. Support board and executive committees to ensure good governance practices are upheld.

Requirements

1. Proven experience in a senior governance, risk, or compliance role within the housing sector.
2. Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks, governance codes, and risk management principles.
3. Experience in board-level engagement and advising senior executives on governance matters.
4. Ability to develop and implement governance strategies effectively.
5. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
6. Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
7. Experience managing audits, regulatory reviews, and compliance reporting.
8. Professional qualification in governance, risk, or compliance (e.g. ICSA, IRM, or equivalent) is desirable.
9. Knowledge of housing sector governance frameworks and regulatory requirements.
