As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll be building and scaling the core systems that power payments for thousands of small businesses across the UK. You'll work closely with the product, frontend, and operations teams to deliver secure, high-performance services that are reliable at scale.
Your work will directly impact how small businesses get paid — faster, cheaper, and with more control. This is a great opportunity to join a fast-growing fintech with a mission to level the playing field for small business owners. You'll have significant influence over our architecture and technical decisions as we scale our platform.
Essentials for this role:
- ~5+ years backend development experience, with Node.js and TypeScript
- ~ Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and microservices
- ~ Experience working with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL
- ~ Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS) and CI/CD pipelines
- ~ Security-conscious mindset, especially working with financial or sensitive data
- ~ Clear communicator with a collaborative, product-first approach
Desirables:
- Experience with event-driven architecture and queues (e.g. SQS, Kafka)
- Previous work with payment platforms, Open Banking, or fintech APIs
- Understanding of data privacy and compliance (e.g. PCI-DSS, GDPR)
- Experience in startup or high-growth environments
