Syndicate Accountant

About the company
A global (re)insurance group with a long-established track record in risk management is expanding its London market finance team. You’ll join a collaborative, high-visibility function supporting a growing platform and modernising finance processes.

The role
We’re hiring an Accountant to support a Lloyd’s syndicate and related entities. This is a strong first move from practice into industry (or a step within the market), offering broad exposure across close, controls, reporting, audit and change/automation initiatives. The team is actively investing in process improvement, automation, data analytics and emerging AI tools, so you’ll have scope to drive real efficiency and operating model improvements.

Key responsibilities

  • Support month-end/quarter-end close for the syndicate and related entities (Group reporting under US GAAP; local reporting under UK GAAP)
  • Maintain general ledger integrity, investigate variances/unusual balances, and strengthen financial controls
  • Identify and deliver continuous improvement opportunities (simplify, standardise, automate) across accounting/reporting processes
  • Partner with Finance, IT and Data/Analytics to implement technology-enabled solutions (automation/AI) to improve accuracy and efficiency
  • Support audit activity, acting as a key liaison for internal/external auditors and providing analysis/documentation as required

What we’re looking for

  • Degree in Accounting/Finance (or similar)
  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA (or equivalent) preferred
  • Background in Big 4 or leading practice strongly desired
  • Exposure to Lloyd’s, insurance/reinsurance, or regulated financial services is advantageous
  • Strong analytical mindset; confident challenging the status quo and improving processes
  • Genuine interest in automation/AI and modern finance tooling
