The position involves providing technical oversight and managing claims across Professional Indemnity, Financial Lines, EL, and Lloyd’s claims in accordance with company guidelines. You will work closely with third-party administrators (TPAs), handle claims above delegated authority levels, and contribute to strategic initiatives aimed at claims savings. The role is vital in ensuring the portfolio is managed efficiently and effectively, supporting the company’s commitment to high standards and client satisfaction.
Role Overview
This position is a key part of the claims team, responsible for proactively managing and overseeing claims, negotiating settlements, and supporting strategic projects to optimize claims handling processes. The role involves working closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure claims are managed effectively, risks are assessed accurately, and opportunities for claims savings are identified and executed.
Key Skills & Experience
- Good level of claims handling technical experience and knowledge
- Understanding of PI / FI / D&O / EL / Lloyd’s claims
- Knowledge of key terms and conditions in contracts/policies and legal positions in relevant jurisdictions
- Good negotiation skills, including experience in formal mediations and successful settlements
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically and adapt
- Excellent IT skills, especially in Excel, with confidence working with claims systems and data
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to develop good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to manage own workload effectively, prioritizing tasks when necessary
- Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to embrace change
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively handle allocated claims to a high standard, including assessing losses and reserves and negotiating with counterparties for timely settlements
- Handle claims under the supervision of the Claims Manager
- Support the Claims Manager with ad-hoc departmental projects
- Identify and report new trends or changes in claims behaviour within the portfolio
- Assist in managing complaint cases within regulatory guidelines
- Work with TPAs to provide assistance with referrals and cases over delegated authority limits
- Effectively manage external service providers to ensure they act in the company’s best interests
- Identify and deliver opportunities for claims savings on individual claims and strategically
- Identify and negotiate deals for claims mitigation strategies like commutation and buyback opportunities
