The opportunity

An exciting role within their European Syndicate Claims team, providingP&I and FDD (Freight, Demurrage & Defence)claims handling and advisory support to Members across multiple European jurisdictions (including Switzerland, Scandinavia, the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Croatia and Türkiye, among others).

You’ll take ownership of a varied caseload, support senior stakeholders, and play an active part in strengthening Member relationships and contributing to continuous improvement across claims processes and knowledge-sharing.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage assignedP&I and FDD claimsin line with internal procedures, providing pragmatic advice and support to Members.
  • Build and promote strong relationships with Members and represent the organisation at asenior levelwhere required.
  • Assist withlarger/complex claimswhen requested by the Syndicate Manager/Claims Director and appropriate for the level.
  • Maintain accurate and timelyelectronic file management, ensuring all correspondence is correctly saved and updated.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development ofclaims procedures and systems.
  • Draft articles and insights for internal/external publications.
  • Participate in meetings/engagements withbrokers and service providers(including correspondents and lawyers).
  • Identify opportunities to add value to the Club/Member relationship and supportloss preventionactivity where relevant.
  • Support syndicate underwriting objectives and take on ad-hoc duties/training as needed.

About you

  • Experience inshipping litigation and dispute resolution, gained within aP&I club, insurer, law firm, shipowner or chartererenvironment.
  • Qualified lawyer(ideally English-qualified) with around2 years’ PQE,ordegree-educated (LLB/LLM Maritime Law or equivalent) with3+ yearsrelevant claims-handling/industry experience.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), includingnegotiation, presentation and reporting.
  • Confident relationship-builder with stakeholders at all levels (internal and external).
  • Highly organised, detail-focused, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities to deadline.
  • AdditionalEuropean languageskills are an advantage (not essential).
  • Team-oriented, collaborative working style.
